Osteopathic Treatment for a Blocked Tear Duct

A blocked tear duct, called the naso lacrimal duct, is a common problem for babies.  Osteopathic treatment is a natural way to assist these babies lymphatic flow and decrease any strain in the eye and nose area.

Osteopathic examination generally finds a compression of the bones of the eye and sinuses which can be inhibiting the flow of tears and mucous down the tear duct.  By gently increasing the movement of these bones and decreasing any tension in the surrounding muscles the diameter of the tear duct is increased and thus the mucous and tears can more easily flow away from the eye.

This helps the baby in many ways, firstly calming down the inflammatory response caused by the build up of waste materials.  It also allows the baby to open their eye more easily thus helping their visual development and also their motor development.
