Torticollis or Wry Neck

Stiff or Wry neck is a very common musculoskeletal problem found in babies. Babies will usually have their head tilted to one side and will turn their head mostly in one direction. Osteopathy in the cranial field or biodynamic osteopathy is a gentle, natural therapy which helps to normalize neck and head mobility. Osteopathic examination of babies with torticollis often shows an imbalance between the upper part of the neck and the base of the skull. This imbalance can be caused by the birth itself. Other reasons for wry neck include positioning in the womb, whether instrumentation was used, i.e. forceps and the compression and rotation force on the baby as it moves through the birth canal.

Approximately 4 weeks of treatment is usually needed to normalize mobility and help to settle any other associated symptoms.
